A much-loved Cairns bakery has switched hands with the new owners promising to keep the heart of the institution intact.
Cairns North’s Annabel’s Bakery’s new owners Bobby Singh and partner Rana Churchill took over on October 22 after the previous owners Greg Hutton and Terry Buckley needed to take a step back.
Making the switch from banana farming for the past 20 years, the Far North locals moved from Tully to Cairns in search of a new venture.
“I started working in this bakery four, five months ago before I bought it so I could learn the concept, how things are,” Mr Singh said.
Mr Singh assured residents that they “will not change anything” about the bakery saying the ingredients, products and location will all remain the same.
“It has a really good reputation and that’s because of what they do and how they do it,” he said.
“The only thing we need to change is make it a little bit bigger … in the future, you might see the space a bit bigger, maybe (expand into) the next shop and the shop after.”
The previous owners Greg Hutton and Terry Buckley won’t be gone forever, as Mr Singh they will be helping out in the shop for three to four days a week.
“They accepted us as well,” Mr Singh.
