A woman has been fined after a dark-coloured BMW flipped onto its side, narrowly missing a large tree on Cairns Esplanade.
Witnesses told police the car was seen speeding down Mackenzie Street before hitting the kerb, rolling and landing in a garden bed.
Police confirmed an 18-year-old East Innisfail woman was involved in the single vehicle traffic crash on the Esplanade on Thursday, January 16.
“It will be alleged the woman lost control of the vehicle while travelling down Mackenzie Street,” she said.
“The vehicle hit a kerb on the Esplanade and came to rest on its side.”
Emergency services were called to the scene just after 8pm on Thursday, January 17.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services and Queensland Police attended.
The woman was not injured and was issued with traffic infringement notices for careless driving, fail to remain at a place and fail to display red P plates.
She received five demerit points and was fined $1870.
Investigations are continuing.
