Sipping cocktails on a daybed watching the latest blockbuster on a huge Vmax screen in 7.1 surround sound will soon be possible at the completion of a $2m renovation at Event Cinemas Earlville.
The first major facelift at the Earlville Shopping Town cinema complex since the centre was built in 1980, the major makeover by Event Cinemas and Entertainment will open with a screening of Puss In Boots on Saturday morning.
The only regional cinema, other than Toowoomba, to offer three seating options, the new Earlville complex’s flagship auditorium allows film buffs to book daybed for two (and a small child) for $60.
Reclining seats with footrests and Vmax style seats are also available in a theatre that has reduced seating from 318 to 212 to create more space.
The other five auditoriums are fitted out with two seating options.
Event Cinemas Queensland marketing manager Deanne Clark said the renovated theatre was all about creating a cinema experience, with choices.
“So we’re reinvesting a lot of money in cinemas, and it’s all about the experience,” she said.
“So that’s why we have gone to this three seat concept in Cairns
“We’ve done a lot of surveys with our Cinebuzz members and this is what they’ve been asking for.”
Cairns firm Commercial Property Services have taken the lead on the renovation in major boost for local business.
Beers, wine and spirits will be available and following a deal stuck with Mr Consistent cocktails, margaritas, bloody Marys and espresso martinis will bring panache to the cinema experience.
“Mr Consistent do everything fresh and then they bottle it and then you just add your liquor of choice,” Ms Clark said.
“So for that total movie experience, and especially with something like Avatar, this is the only place to see it on the big screen. Relaxing in a recliner, having a glass of wine or a drinking margarita.”
James Cameron’s long awaited Avatar: The Way of Water will be shown at Event Cinemas Earlville on Wednesday December 14.
After being closed for two months Event Cinemas Earlville will reopen on December 10.
