Whether you were sleeping off a hangover or up early for a run, Cairns residents welcomed in the New Year their way.

The Cairns Post spoke to people to see what they want to change in 2025 and put together a list to get you started.

New Year’s resolutions often divide people; some see the January 1 as a fresh start, a chance to reinvent, while others are too busy trying to get through the day.

For Sashi and his wife Rata, 2025 was going to be a year of discipline and experiences.

“I want to travel more, to lose a few kilos and get fitter,” Sashi said.

“But my daughter, her New Year’s resolution was to watch more TV!”

Physiotherapist Callum Turner said he wanted to make an effort in the New Year to be more selfish with his time.

“I really want to explore more of Far North Queensland, camping, hiking just getting out there,” Mr Turner said.

“I also want to start doing more things for myself, start budgeting and looking out for the future.”

Lucia Zhang was visiting from Melbourne and said she hoped to get ahead in 2025.

“I think it would be great to save a bit of money, to get a job and improve my English,” Ms Zhang said.

For those trying to make good on their resolutions whether it be to get a bit fitter, learn how to cook or find a community we have compiled a bit of a list to get you started.
