Woman charged after allegedly setting man on fire

A woman has been charged after allegedly dousing a man with a flammable liquid and setting him alight, with the victim forced to drive himself to get help.

A woman has been charged after a man was allegedly doused with a clear, flammable liquid and set on fire in Perth’s south.

Police allege the 34-year-old woman ran away after setting the 57-year-old man’s clothing alight just before 11pm on Monday near the corner of Cranford Ave and Parkside Ave in Brentwood.

The man suffered burns to a large part of his chest and stomach.

“The injured man managed to drive himself to a service station on Canning Highway in Como,” police said.

St John Ambulance was called and the man was taken to hospital for treatment.

On Wednesday, police revealed Fremantle detectives had charged the Brentwood woman with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, or prevent arrest, wounded or caused grievous bodily harm.

She will face Fremantle Magistrates Court later on Wednesday.

It’s understood the man suffered critical injuries and is in a stable condition at Fiona Stanley Hospital.
