Dozens of police cars have surrounded a popular regional pub after an allegedly armed woman was shot by police during an altercation.

A woman allegedly armed with a knife has been shot after an altercation with police in Townsville.
Police were called to the West End Hotel on Ingham Rd in Townsville shortly before 5.30pm on Tuesday after reports a woman armed with a knife was “making threats”.
“Police were called to a hotel on Ingham Road just before 5.30pm following reports a female armed with a knife was making threats,” Queensland Police said in a statement.
“The female armed with the knife came at police and was subsequently shot in the abdomen.
“First aid was provided by officers before she was transported to hospital for treatment.
“Officers administered first aid to the woman before she was taken to hospital for further treatment.
“A crime scene has been declared and investigations are continuing.”
Dozens of police cars gathered around the pub on Ingham St, with witnesses reportedly hearing a female officer telling the woman to stop.
“I just heard the police telling her to stop, telling her to stop, then the gun shot,” witness Joanne Aldous told the Courier-Mail.
