‘Well-known’ Burpengary sports coach charged with multiple historical child sexual offences
Police have charged an 87-year-old “well-known sports coach” with sexual offences, as they continue to probe his decades-long career.
Police have charged an 87-year-old Burpengary man with multiple sexual offences, alleging he abused his position as a well-known sports coach to abuse children.
The arrest comes as part of Operation Xray Ironpath, launched after police received a report in October 2025.
On November 20, detectives from the State Flying Squad and the Sexual Crimes Unit took the man into custody.
He now faces three counts of rape, seven counts of indecent treatment of a child, and one count of unlawful carnal knowledge.
Authorities allege the offences involved three victims under the age of 16, with the man allegedly exploiting his role in the Caboolture sports community.
Queensland Police say the investigation remains ongoing, as the man’s three decade career is probed.
“Investigators are now reviewing the potential offending period from the early 1990s to 2025 and are appealing to anyone with further information relating to the incidents or victims who may have experienced similar,” the force said in a statement.
Investigators are particularly keen to hear from people in Caboolture, North Brisbane, and Mackay regions.
The man is scheduled to appear in Caboolture Magistrates Court on December 2.
