Three teenagers have died in a car crash, involving two other vehicles, in northern Queensland on Saturday.

Three teenagers have died in a car crash in northern Queensland on Saturday.

Police suspect the group were travelling in a sedan which collided head-on with a 4WD ute, on a major road on the outskirts of Mackay about 10.30pm.

A girl and two teenage boys, all aged 19,died at the scene.

“Absolutely devastated. A phone call I didn’t want to get. My heart aches for you my cousin,’ a woman posted online.

The crash happened on the Mackay Ring Road in the suburb of Glenella on Saturday night, involving a Mazda 2 and a Great Wall Cannon.

“Initial investigations indicate the Mazda had been travelling south when it attempted to overtake a semi-trailer, before colliding with the Great Wall travelling in the opposite direction,” a police spokesperson said.

“The three occupants of the Mazda, including two 19-year-old boys and a 19-year-old girl, died at the scene.”

The driver of the Great Wall, a 29-year-old Blacks Beach man, was taken to Mackay Base Hospital in a serious condition.

The driver of the semi-trailer, a 68-year-old Kelso man, was uninjured.

“The occupants of a fourth vehicle, an Isuzu D-Max, were not injured after veering off the road to avoid the crash,” the spokesperson said.

Police want anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward.

At least 151 people have died on Queensland roads in 2025.
