A teenager is in hospital after he was stabbed twice at a house party in Perth’s southeast that turned out of control.

Courage Wreh was rushed to Royal Perth Hospital after suffering stabbing injuries to the front and back of his chest while he tried to stop gatecrashers at party he was attending in Brookdale on Saturday night.

The 16-year-old was trying to protect his friend who was trying to call police, according to his sister Edith Wreh.

“Courage did not just do this because he wanted to do it, he did it because he didn‘t want his friend to die that day,” she told 9 News.

It’s understood that only 50 people were invited to the 17th birthday, but an hour into the party, dozens of gatecrashers showed up before there were multiple calls to police.

“On arrival, officers located a party with 100 to 150 juveniles, most of them drinking alcohol, and several altercations had occurred,” a WA Police spokesman said.

“Several altercations had occurred, with a number of people being injured.”

It’s alleged that gatecrashers stole shoes and mobile phones.

Courage’s sister believes that the year 12 student is lucky to be alive after the attack.

“If God wasn’t on his side he would have been six feet under,” she said.

“We would have been having Christmas burying someone.”

Courage is now receiving treatment for a punctured lung and is expected to remain in hospital for weeks to come.

“(The person) who stabbed him did a pretty good job, he’s having trouble breathing, he’s having trouble talking,” Edith said.

“Short breaths every two seconds, you can hear it, you can see death coming out.”
