Police have been left baffled after a body was found in a stormwater drain in a residential area.

Police have been left baffled after a body was found in a stormwater drain in a residential area in Perth’s east.

A member of the public made the grim discovery about 11am on Thursday near Marlboro and Morrison Road in Swan View, with emergency services immediately called to the scene.

But the identity of the man and how long his body had been there before he was found remain a mystery.

9News reported police were searching a nearby creek and had talked to residents who lived in an apartment block close to where the man’s body was found, but had not yet found answers to crucial questions.

Residents said it was “dreadful” knowing something terrible had happened so close to where their children were.

The death is being treated as suspicious while police continue to investigate how the man died.
