Police have made a dramatic arrest in the middle of a Melbourne road after a man was found dead and a woman seriously injured.

Emergency services were called to the Willoughby Street residence in Reservoir, Melbourne shortly after 8.20am on Wednesday following reports of an assault with an edged weapon.

When crews arrived, they found an injured 29-year-old man who died at the scene while a 65-year-old woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Police then swarmed the property, speaking to a man they believed was still inside the home through a megaphone. But when officers stormed the home two hours later, it was empty, sparking a manhunt involving heavily armed officers for Shaun Sanderson, who Nine News reports is the son of the injured woman and the brother of the man killed.

Mr Sanderson, 32, was located on Gilbert Road in Preston and taken into custody without incident about 2.40pm, police said. He has not been charged.

Incredible aerial footage of the moment shows Mr Sanderson laying in an intersection with his arms behind his back, as he is surrounded by police.

A large portion of the street in Reservoir remained taped off into the afternoon and bystanders told NCA NewsWire they witnessed critical incident response personnel enter the property armed and wearing riot gear.

A section of Reservoir Private Hospital, located on the opposite side of the street nearby, has also been taped off.

Nine reported Mr Sanderson’s brother’s body was found the carpark of the hospital, after running to get help.

Pam Egan, 82, has lived on the street for 45 years and told NCA NewsWire that she knew the residents involved in the incident from her neighbourhood walks.

“Two brothers lived with their parents at the property, another one lived out in the bush,” Ms Egan said.

“I did know them, they were a hard working family.

“They’re a lovely family, always friendly.”

Another local resident said he had seen between 30 and 40 police on scene just after 8am.
