Homicide squad detectives are investigating after a man was fatally stabbed in Melbourne’s northern suburbs on Thursday night in a suspected targeted attack.
Police were called to a house on Victoria Drive, Thomastown, about 8.40pm following reports a man had been stabbed.
Medical assistance was provided; however, a 36-year-old Doreen man died at the scene.
Police arrested a 45-year-old Glenroy man at the scene and he remains in custody, police said in a statement released on Friday morning.
“Detectives are still searching for a second person in relation to the incident,” it says in the statement.
“At this early stage in the investigation, the incident appears to be a targeted attack.”
Police want anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage from the area to come forward, and anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers.
Images from the scene show police focusing on the veranda of a house on Victoria Drive as evidence bags are taken from the house by police.
A neighbour who spoke to the Herald Sun at the scene suspected drugs were dealt from the house, with repeated fights and confrontations.
However, another neighbour expressed shock at the incident, saying the area in general was quiet and “everyone always says hello to each other when you’re walking down the street”.
