Perth International Airport evacuated after smoke detected in departure lounge

Passengers were forced to flee and flights were delayed after reports of smoke were detected in the departure lounge of an international airport.

Passengers were forced to flee and two flights were delayed after a fire alarm was activated at the Perth International Airport departure lounge.

A Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokesperson said three crews attended the airport about 11.45am on Monday after smoke was reported in terminal one.

Workers and passengers inside the terminal were ordered to evacuate the building causing chaos at terminal one.

Two arriving flights were delayed as authorities responded to reports of smoke inside the terminal that triggered the alarm.

A Fire and Emergency Services spokesperson said crews were unable to find anything significant and the building was re-opend about 40 minutes later.
