Parts of Queensland and Northern NSW warned of wet weather

Several communities still recovering from the aftermath of ex-tropical Cyclone Alfred are now facing the risk of renewed flooding.

Residents in northern New South Wales as well as much of Queensland are bracing for yet another bout of heavy rainfall as they continue to clean up from the destruction of ex-tropical Cyclone Alfred.

Multiple flood warnings are currently in place across Queensland, The Bureau of Meteorology warned, with authorities closely monitoring rising river levels in already saturated regions.

Flood watch warnings are in place for parts of the Lake Eyre Basin Rivers and Gulf of Carpentaria Rivers, as well as minor flood warnings for the Herbert, Tully, Murray, Ross, and Bohle Rivers.

Residents in Townsville have also been urged to stay alert, as heavy rainfall is forecasted to continue in the region well into next week.

The Bureau of Meteorology, predicted the town would see rainfall totals of 30 to 50 millimetres over the weekend and into early next week.

Meanwhile, those in Lismore, in northern NSW, are set to endure more wet weather in the coming days.

Forecasts predict a high chance of showers in the region, which should continue well into the week, and are expected to intensify on Thursday and Friday.

Many communities still recovering from the cyclone’s aftermath are now facing the risk of renewed flooding, with the potential for rivers to rise rapidly.

With the ground already saturated from the cyclone, emergency services are urging residents to stay vigilant, especially in flood-prone areas.

Authorities are once again reminding motorists not to drive through floodwaters and to keep an eye on weather alerts as conditions continue to evolve.

The combination of persistent showers and already swollen waterways means that localised flash flooding is a possibility in low-lying areas.
