Notorious bikie Troy Mercanti behind bars after dramatic arrest at his home

Notorious bikie Troy Mercanti was handcuffed shirtless at his home and is now facing multiple charges of rape.

Police have charged a notorious bikie with rape just hours after the incident was alleged to have happened.

Mongols member Troy Mercanti was seen handcuffed and shirtless at his home on Brodrick St in Karrinyup, in Perth’s north, on Thursday following claims he sexually assaulted a woman.

Police allege the incident took place between midday and 1pm on Thursday.

By 3.30pm that day, Mr Mercanti was being driven away from his home in the back of a police car.

Detectives from the Sex Assault Squad charged the 56-year-old with two counts of sexual penetration without consent and aggravated sexual penetration.

Troy Mercanti has been remanded in custody but plans to apply for bail.

He appeared in Perth Magistrates Court on Friday wearing a white paper jumpsuit.

Mr Mercanti spoke only to confirm his name and that he understood the charges.

Lawyer Paul Holmes said his client planned to apply for bail and asked for the matter to be adjourned until Monday for the hearing.

Mr Mercanti will appear before the court via video link from prison to make his bail application.

Police were present outside the court in Perth, where Mr Holmes said his client was doing fine.

“The matters are still before the court, the bail application hasn’t been made, so I’m not prepared to comment,” he said.

Mr Mercanti also has a separate matter before the courts where he is facing a charge of fighting in public causing fear.

He has not entered a plea to that charge and the matter is next scheduled for Midland Magistrates Court on June 14.
