Mark Latham and ex Nathalie Matthews ‘unable to resolve’ AVO
An AVO taken out by embattled MP Mark Latham’s ex-partner is now set to be resolved in a mammoth three-day local court hearing next year.
Former federal Labor leader Mark Latham and his ex-partner Nathalie May Matthews are set to air their grievances in court next year, after an apprehended violence order (AVO) was unable to be resolved.
Nathalie May Matthews applied for an AVO over claims Mr Latham abused her and forced her into degrading sex acts.
The exact allegations were not released by the court and no criminal charges were laid by NSW Police.
Mr Latham denied the allegations, and a court was previously told he intended to fight them.
Neither Ms Matthews nor Mr Latham appeared before the John Maddison Tower Local Court on Tuesday, where the matter was briefly mentioned.
While Ms Matthews’ lawyer Daniel Wakim had indicated in court in October that the matter was likely to settle, he said on Tuesday the matter has now gone down a different direction.
“There were negotiations on foot … unfortunately they have not been able to be resolved,” he said.
Both parties confirmed they would attend a three-day hearing in May.
Mr Latham’s lawyer Zali Burrows said they may be seeking to file further evidence if it is required.
Mr Latham earlier told NewsWire that he believed Ms Matthews’ solicitor had written a letter of withdrawal to the registrar, and after signing the agreement that would be “the end of that”.
A three-day hearing has been listed for May 21, 22 and 23 next year.
