Man flown to hospital after light plane crash at Bunbury Airport, WA

A man has been flown to hospital in a critical condition after a light plane crash nearly a regional runway.

A man has been flown to hospital in a critical condition after a light plane crash in Western Australia.

Emergency crews were called after reports a privately-owned aircraft had crashed near the Bunbury Airport, 170km south of Perth, about 2.45pm on Friday.

WA Police confirmed the plane had crashed at the end of the runway on the eastern side of the South West Hwy.

It is understood the male pilot was trapped in the aircraft after the crash but was extracted about 3.10pm.

He was then assessed at the scene by St John Ambulance paramedics before being flown to Royal Perth Hospital in a critical condition.
