A man’s suffered significant burns after being set on fire by a stranger in the southern Perth suburb of Brentwood.

The 57-year-old was standing on Cranford Ave about 10.45pm Monday when a stranger ran up to him, poured an accelerant on his clothing, and set it alight.

Despite suffering serious burns to his chest and stomach, the man managed to get into his car and drive to a service station along Caning Hwy in the neighbouring suburb of Como for help, before he was taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital for treatment.

Police want to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the seemingly random attack.

“Anyone with information, CCTV or dashcam vision of the area around shopping area of Cranford and Parkside Avenues taken between 10.50pm and 11pm, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000,” a WA Police spokesperson said.
