Son charged with murder after mother dies from severe burns in NSW house fire

A 42-year-old man has been refused bail after turning himself into police after his mother died from severe burns in a house fire.

The son of a woman who died after a horror house fire has been charged with her murder, as tributes pour in for the NSW mother.

Emergency services rushed to the home of Nerol Doble on Bribbaree Rd, 50km northwest of Young, at about midday on Sunday after hearing reports she had been injured in a house fire.

The 65-year-old woman was found suffering from severe burns and was flown in a critical condition to Royal North Shore hospital.

A crime scene was established and detectives attached to The Hume Police District began making inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Her 42-year-old son Shannon Doble turned himself in at Parkes Police Station, 145km away from the house, and was arrested.

He was charged with murder (domestic violence), cause wounding/grievous bodily harm to person with intent to murder (DV), damage property by fire/explosion greater than $15,000 (DV), and assault occasioning actual bodily harm (DV).

He appeared before Parkes Local Court on Monday and was refused bail to reappear again on March 4.

Tributes have flowed for the 65-year-old Ms Noble, with a family member telling the Daily Telegraph she would be “sadly missed”

“She was loved by all her family,” nephew Peter Meyers said.

Ms Doble’s social media profile shows she had donated to various charities over the years, including to domestic violence causes.

“For my birthday this year, I’m asking for donations to Rape & Domestic Violence Services – Full Stop Australia,” she wrote on her page in December.

“I’ve chosen this nonprofit because their mission means a lot to me, and I hope you’ll consider contributing as a way to celebrate with me. Every little bit will help me reach my goal.”

Her son has since been charged with murder, wounding causing grievous bodily harm to a person with intent to murder, damaging property worth more than $15,000 by fire, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Three of the charges are listed as domestic-violence related offences.

He was taken into police custody and will appear before Parkes Local Court on Monday.

Domestic violence groups say, if the case against her son is proven, Ms Doble would be the second woman to be killed as a result of DV violence in Australia this year.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.
