Kmart Australia quietly pulls $20 AirTag dupe

The discount chain store has quietly pulled its budget dupe of Apple’s famous smart trackers.

Kmart has removed its new $20 “Smart Tag” which shoppers have likened to a cheaper version of Apple’s AirTags.

Excited shoppers initially shared posts on social media commenting over the similarity of the two trackable tags, with Kmart’s offering coming in at less than half the cost of Apple’s $49 tag.

However, as of Monday, the product had disappeared off shelves in-store, and is no longer available on store’s website.

Kmart appeared to recall the Smart Tag from its physical and online stores after launching the product earlier this month.

It is not clear why the product has been removed from sale.

A spokesperson for company said the product been off sale and will be returned to sale soon.

The budget dupe features a replaceable battery, and is compatible with Apple’s FindMy location tracking app.

While it doesn’t have Apple’s “Precision Finding” feature, which directs your phone to the exact location of the AirTag, Kmart’s Smart Tag will give the GPS location of the lost item.

Comparing the two products, one TikTok user said that while the Apple version has a considerably better battery life of roughly a year, the Smart Tag has a “competitive price and (is) good enough for general tracking”.
