“Three houses have been extensively damaged, with partial damage to a fourth,” The Queensland Fire Department said.

“Heavy smoke is still affecting the area and will continue to do so throughout the evening. Nearby residents should close windows and doors and keep respiratory medications close by.”

It’s understood the blaze began after a fuel spill ignited on the ground.

Homeowners were visibly distraught as they watched flames consume their homes as fire crews tried to defend other properties, the Courier Mail reported.

Resident Matthew Love said his wife had seen “several rags and a car on fire at the bottom of the house where the fire is believed to have started.”

“He (the owner) was still trying to put it out. He got pretty bad burns on his legs and everything,” Mr Love said.

“It just got carried away so quickly…the smoke was really intense straight away.”

“We have two dogs and our neighbour smashed our window to get them out,” she said.

“We were at the shops and we came out and just stated running… it’s been really scary.”

Member for Stafford, Jimmy Sullivan took to social media to say his “thoughts were with residents”.

“There has been a serious fire incident in Evelyn St - the Grange - involving several homes,” he said.

“Please show great caution if a local resident ... Obviously our thoughts are with those residents directly affected and their neighbours.”

Queensland Ambulance Service confirmed one person had significant burns to their legs, hands and face and another person had minor burns.

Police evacuated the street and paramedics were on the scene.
