Graphic pictures of the police car used by one of the officers who survived a horrific murder plot on the Darling Downs reveal the amount of gunfire he faced trying to escape.
Police investigators have towed the car driven by Constable Randall Kirk from Chinchilla Police Station on Thursday.
The car was peppered with bullets by Gareth Train, his brother Nathaniel and wife Stacey on their Wieambilla property on Monday.
Chinchilla-based Constable Randall Kirk was one of four officers who attended the rural property, south of Chinchilla, to conduct a welfare check.
But when they arrived, the Train family was waiting armed and ready to shoot at the sight of any police officer who stood foot on their property.
Tara-based constables Rachel McCrow and Matthew Arnold were executed in cold blood by the trio.
Neighbour Alan Dare was also murdered when he went to the property to assist after seeing smoke from a fire set on the property.
Another officer, Constable Keely Brough, was able to escape into bushland, where she waited for extra police to save her from being hunted by the Train family.
Constable Kirk, who was also shot in the leg by the trio, was also able to escape.
He had been able to make it back to his police vehicle despite being wounded and was able to drive away while calling for help.
The Train family were also shot dead by a team of 16 tactical officers late on Monday night.
New images reveal the terrifying prospect Constable Kirk faced as his car was peppered with bullets.
The car had visible bullet holes through its front and back windscreens, and its side driver’s window was smashed through.
Constable Kirk underwent surgery in Toowoomba Hospital for the injuries he suffered under the immense gunfire.
He has since returned home to join his pregnant wife Breanna and their daughter.
Constable Kirk said in a statement on Wednesday he was “feeling fine, just a little sore”.
“My main thoughts are with the other police families at this awful time,” Constable Kirk said.
“It means a lot to know the community cares for us all.
“My wife and I have a young family and would appreciate privacy as we come to terms with this.”
NCA NewsWire understands police are focusing on establishing a timeline on exactly how the deadly attack unfolded, with the information to be key to the wider investigation.
A forensic team is combing the property for evidence, finding many bullet casings, in a bid to better understand what occurred.
Queensland Police Union president Ian Leavers told NCA NewsWire the Train family had a “calculated” plan to inflict as much pain and injury as possible.
“There was a sophisticated surveillance network which was put into place with plans and preparations by this ruthless murderous trio with a plan to murder police,” Mr Leaver told NCA NewsWire.
