Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has revealed who will take on a key role in his upcoming wedding to fiancee Jodie Haydon.

While the Prime Minister has confirmed his big day won’t be held until after the looming federal election, planning is clearly underway, with his beloved dog Toto to act as ring bearer.

Speaking to Karl Stefanovic on 60 Minutes, Mr Albanese said “the only thing” he and Ms Haydon had decided on was Toto’s role in the ceremony.

His comments follow an interview with New Idea, where it was reported despite the couple’s shared Catholic faith, vows would not be exchanged in a church, with the couple more likely to opt for an outdoor setting.

Stefanovic tried to muscle in on the action, offering to MC the event, with the Prime Minister expressing some doubt as to whether he’d be appropriate, before suggesting a different role for the broadcaster.

“I don’t know how you’d go,” he said, offering instead: “Maybe you can DJ?”

The wide-ranging 60 Minutes interview also touched on Mr Albanese’s lesser-known habits, with Ms Haydon confirming he is “a little OCD”.

“I completely … have to be organised, things done in a certain way,” Mr Albanese said.

The couple shared an ongoing bathroom squabble as a primary example, with a shared sink a common source of disagreement.

“When things start to migrate over (to Mr Albanese’s side), I know when I’ve gone too far,” Ms Haydon laughed.

The couple recently came under fire when it was revealed they had purchased a $4.3 million waterfront home at Copacabana on the NSW Central Coast, which Mr Albanese said earlier was intended for the pair to live in “somewhere down the track”.

Expanding on the decision to purchase the home, Mr Albanese suggested there was an element of a fresh start involved in making the decision.

“Look, Jodie and I are getting married. What you don’t do is move into the family home

where Carmel and I raised Nathan together as a family,” he told 60 Minutes.

“And guess what, Karl? At some stage … (I) won’t be Prime Minister into my eighties and therefore we have bought a place close to where Jodie grew up, ah where her family are all based.”

Mr Albanese and Ms Haydon dated for almost four years before their engagement, after meeting at an event in Melbourne, where they bonded over their love of the South Sydney Rabbitohs NRL team.

The Prime Minister said he “wasn’t looking for a relationship” at the time, but that three littler words had captured his heart.

“Jodie yelled out, “Up the Rabbitohs”, is how we met, when I went round the tables,” he said.

“That’s how easy you were!” Stefanovic quipped back, Mr Albanese replying: “Yeah, you had me at ‘Up the Rabbitohs!’”

The pair had their first date at the Young Henry’s brewery in Newtown, and in Jodie’s words: “The rest is history.”

Mr Albanese popped the question at The Lodge after a romantic Valentine’s Day dinner in 2024.

He told media at the time the couple “couldn’t be more happy”.

“It’s such a joy to be able to share this news with people, and it’s wonderful that I’ve found a partner who I want to spend the rest of my life with,” Mr Albanese said.

The Prime Minister is yet to call the federal election, which must be held before May 17.
