Bizarre sandwich dubbed one of the worst things to eat in the world

It’s a variation to an Aussie classic that involves just two ingredients between some slices of white bread. But now, it’s been branded as a disgrace.

The very British battle over Marmite and Vegemite

A global list ranking some of the ‘worst’ foods in the world has named a sandwich from New Zealand among some of the most disturbing.

Similar to the Aussie classic Vegemite, over the ditch a combo of Marmite spread and a handful of potato chips slapped between two slices of white bread has been dubbed as the 17th worst meal in the world.

The annual TasteAtlas’ list of the 100 worst-rated foods in the world, reveal some of the most stomach-turning meals people consume from around the globe.

TasteAtlas is a global food guide that explores traditional cuisines from around the world.

From Deep-Fried Silk Worms in Thailand, to jellied eels in England or the worst of all — Blodpalt in Finland (which are essentially dark-brown dumplings prepared with rye or barley flour and animal’s blood) — the list features meals and snacks from around the globe.

While some — including those in New Zealand and in Australia — love the combo of the spread and the chips as filling for a sandwich, others have deemed it so unsavoury it received a rank of just over 2 stars.

But locals say despite the low ranking, the snack is superior.

“Top Tier Kiwi Snack. Fave chip choices are ready salted or salt and vinegar,” one said of the snack.

“Any sandwich is great when chips/crisps are combined,” another added.

Following the Blodpalt, which ranked in at number 1, the Bocadillo de Sardinas from Spain, a sandwich filled with canned sardines came in second while in third place is Calskrove (which looks like a heart attack on a plate) whereby a Swedish pizza is stuffed with hamburgers and French fries.

To round out the list was a Frog Eye salad from Utah, Czernina from Poland (which is prepared with duck or goose blood) and Paniki from Indonesia — a local delicacy mainly containing fruit bats.
