BFL wrap: Round 6 results after Queenscliff defeated Geelong Amateurs

Queenscliff celebrated its club champion Tom Limb with an emphatic win against a “horrendous” Geelong Amateurs side, while there were season-defining contests around the grounds.

QUEENSCLIFF celebrated its club champion Tom Limb with an emphatic win against a “horrendous” Geelong Amateurs side.

Limb was an instrumental contributor in his 200th game for the Coutas, as Queenscliff ran out 14.7 (91) to 6.10 (40) winners against the Ammos.

Coutas coach Rory Nichol said it was a “special day” to celebrate the three-time premiership player.

“Tommy’s been a champion at this club, so to be able to get the win on his 200th was pretty special,” he said.

“It’s pretty amazing, there’s some young guys here who were little kids at school when Limby was playing, now they’re running out and playing in his 200th.

“The conditions didn’t really lend themselves to a clean game of footy, but we moved the ball pretty well, kicked straight and ultimately had a good day on the park.”

The 51-point win for the Coutas propelled them to sixth on the ladder, sitting on equal points with Geelong Amateurs at 3-3.

Geelong Amateurs co-coach Daniel Holroyd said his players displayed “a lack of effort”.

“It was pretty horrendous, to be honest,” Holroyd said.

“I know they were celebrating a milestone and they were all up and about, but we were second to the contest every time.

“We showed a lack of effort and intensity, and desire to get to the footy first.

“It was a really good opportunity to put some separation between us and sixth spot on the ladder, but we weren’t able to do that.”

Anglesea v Portarlington

A seven-goal haul to Anglesea forward Ryan Williams led the Kangaroos to a 66-point win against the winless Portarlington.

Anglesea’s Tom Leeds and Ash Caldwell were named best on ground as the Kangaroos ran out 20.10 (130) to 9.10 (64) winners.

Barwon Heads v Newcomb

A spirited effort from Nathan Brown in front of goal has propelled Barwon Heads to third on the ladder after a 12.18 (90) to 8.7 (55) win against Newcomb.

Seagull Michael Philp was instrumental in the 35-point win, while Kyle Maher and Charlie Hurst were also big performers for Barwon Heads.

Ocean Grove v Drysdale

Drysdale’s perfect start to the season has continued, with a strong win against a struggling Ocean Grove.

The Grubbers slumped to 1-5 after the 7.6 (48) to 14.15 (99) loss at the hands of the Hawks, who sit outright first on the ladder.

Torquay v Modewarre

Three goals to both Tom Hornsey and Connor Joseph was not enough to steer Modewarre home against Torquay, which bounced back in an emphatic fashion.

Torquay’s clean ball movement and solid execution resulted in a 16.14 (110) to 11.9 (75) win, which keeps them clear in second place.
