Geelong Amateur and Torquay remain the two clubs in the window for promotion into the Geelong league as the midway point of the Bellarine season approaches.
Torquay’s senior football side has dropped to sixth on the BFNL ladder in a rare slump for the powerhouse, but the Tigers remain in second spot in the BFNL club championship standings
The top-two BFNL clubs are eligible for non-mandatory promotion into the Geelong league at the end of each two-year cycle, which comes to a close at the end of 2025.
It means Geelong Amateur and Torquay have the option to enter the Geelong league in 2026, with the Ammos’ all-round dominance seeing them on on top with 74 points — 23 points ahead of second-placed Torquay — ahead of round nine.
North Shore entered the season in the relegation zone and is destined to remain there given the Seagulls haven’t fielded A or B grade netball sides in this two-year cycle.
However, BFNL clubs threatened to breakaway from the current competition structure last month which may be save Seagulls if they decide to remain in the GFNL.
North Shore’s president Maryian Szponar has said a move into the Geelong & District league has been a consideration for the club, with their senior football side having a percentage of just 8.33 after round six.
Torquay had a 10-point gap on Anglesea and Ocean Grove entering the season but now third-placed Ocean Grove trails by just five after moving up one spot since 2024.
Newtown & Chilwell is the big riser in the Geelong league, jumping from fourth to second off the back of their strong netball club and improved football results under Geelong Cats legend Steve Johnson.
Newcomb (10th in 2024 to ninth in 2025), Drysdale (sixth to fifth), Geelong West (eighth to seventh) also went up one position on the club championship ladder.
Angelsea (third to fourth), Queenscliff (fifth to sixth), Portarlington (ninth to 10th), South Barwon (second to third), St Mary’s (third to fourth) and Colac (seventh to eighth) have all dropped a spot.
If two clubs have the same amount of club championship points, the club with the most senior football and A grade netball points will be ranked higher.
The club championship standings will be confirmed at the end of the home-and-away season for the Bellarine and Geelong league competitions.
