INSTEAD of rousing the driver of the car that had just crashed into him, one Jeep-driving good Samaritan drove the driver’s wife to an important medical appointment.
Now Gary Williams and his wife Cheryl want to meet and say thank you to the selfless man.
Mr Williams, from Howden, was driving Mrs Williams to a day procedure at the hospital on Wednesday at about 7.20am in heavy traffic on the Southern Outlet.
“We were about 500 or 600 metres from the Mt Nelson turn off and the traffic got slower and slower,” Mr Williams said.
“It stopped and I stood on the brake and managed to avoid the car in front of me but there was a whack from behind and I was shunted into the car in front.”
He said there were four or five cars all involved in the prang and while there were no injuries, a couple of vehicles were damaged. His Jaguar S-Type had since been declared a write-off.
“My wife was in a bit of a panic,” he said.
“We were supposed to be at the hospital for 7.30am.
“The guy that I got pushed into was looking at his car and I just asked him if he would mind taking my wife to the hospital.
“I didn’t get his name or his number but he took my wife and got her there.”
Mr Williams said he wanted to thank the man who helped him.
“He was so obliging considering he’d just been tapped on the back of his car by me. We are extremely grateful.”
He also said it was high time people drove to the conditions and kept more space between cars, especially in the wet.
