Pedestrian struck by car dies, driver fights for life

Detectives are investigating the collision that left one person dead and another in a critical condition after a car mounted the kerb.

A pedestrian has died in Melbourne’s northwest after he was hit by a car on Tuesday morning, while the driver remains fighting for life in hospital.

Police say at about 5.35am a male pedestrian was struck and killed by a gold Toyota Camry travelling east on Taylors Rd in Keilor Downs after the vehicle mounted the kerb.

The male driver, who was the sole occupant of the car, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The pedestrian who died at the scene is yet to be formally identified.

Anyone who witnessed the car driving in the moments before the collision, or who has dashcam or CCTV of the incident, has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
