The world’s best-selling electric car has a new look.
Tesla has updated the Model Y for 2025, adding fresh tech and improved refinement to a car that won over countless customers.
Key changes include new bladelike lighting at the front and rear, as well as a revised steering wheel with customisable buttons that make the car easier to live with.

It’s welcome news to people who don’t appreciate Tesla’s over-reliance on touchscreens.
As with the smaller Tesla Model 3 sedan, the revised Model Y has an 8-inch display in the back seat that allows rear passengers can enjoy climate controls as well as games and video or audio streaming.
Parents will be thrilled to hear that the rear screen has a separate bluetooth connection allowing kids to watch or listen to their preferred content using headphones, while adults upfront can do their own thing on a separate 15.4-inch touchscreen.

Tesla says updated suspension and acoustic glass should make the car quieter and more comfortable than before.
The brand says “every detail of the New Model Y has been designed with efficiency in mind, ensuring that each aspect of the vehicle is optimised for a seamless and enjoyable driving experience”.
The car starts from $63,400 plus on-road costs (about $69,000 drive-away) in rear-wheel-drive form. That’s up from $55,900 plus on-roads for the outgoing model.
The standard model has 466km of range and can hit 100km/h in 5.9 seconds.
A long-range all-wheel-drive model is available for $73,400 plus on-roads (about $79,000 drive-away), delivering a claimed 551 kilometres of range and a 4.3 second sprint to 100km/h.
Expect a faster Tesla Model Y Performance to follow with punchy motors capable of rocketing the car to 100km/h in less than four seconds.
The new Tesla Model Y arrives locally in May.
