Clive Palmer buys Adolf Hitler’s Mercedes, King Edward VIII’s Rolls Royce

As part of the mining millionaire‘s plan to amass hundreds of millions of dollars worth of vintage cars, Clive Palmer has made two major purchases.

Billionaire and senate-hopeful Clive Palmer has reportedly purchased Adolf Hitler’s bulletproof Mercedes-Benz as part of his bid to build a rare car museum.

According to The Courier Mail, after two years of negotiations to purchase the Mercedes-Benz 770 Grosser Offener Tourenwagen – known as the Super Mercedes – Mr Palmer has closed the deal and taken the vehicle off an unnamed Russian billionaire.

After the end of World War II, the car was seized in France by the US military before it was purchased by an American billionaire. It has changed hands multiple times in the subsequent decades.

Adolf Hitler’s parade car, the 1939 Mercedes-Benz 770K Grosser Offener Tourenwagen, has been purchased by Clive Palmer.

Mr Palmer is also understood to have purchased a Rolls-Royce once owned by King Edward VIII.

Mr Palmer’s company Minerology is believed to have purchased the vehicle at auction in London recently for more than $200,000.

The two new acquisitions are the latest additions to what Mr Palmer hopes will become the greatest collection of vintage cars in the world.

He has rare cars stored in three locations – some under his Gold Coast home, some at his Sunshine Coast resort, and some at a secure facility near the Gold Coast.

According to The Courier Mail, Mr Palmer hopes to have 600 cars on rotation when he eventually finds somewhere to open his planned museum.
