If you feel like eggs but hanker for something different, consider these five cafes which serve your everyday protein with a taste of something else.

Bear With Me, 399 Macquarie St, South Hobart

South Hobart’s fresh brunch venue Bear With Me has an Asian influence to its dishes — their eggs benedict on a ham hock a fine example. The eggs sit atop the ham hock which is cooked overnight in a Chinese master stock base. Infused with lemongrass, coriander, garlic and ginger, the hock is served on a stack of crispy bintje potatoes cooked in thyme and parmesan served with a side of hollandaise and crisp fresh apple.

Whisk & Co., 102 Augusta Rd, Lenah Valley

Whisk & Co. Lenah Valley has all your eggs needs sorted, with its multiple choices of twists on benedict. The most popular is the satay Benedict which comes with poached eggs, potato rosti, bacon, crispy noodles, satay sauce and a hollandaise sauce they make in-house. The benedict bar comes with a choice of sides and sauces to have with your eggs Benedict, from Atlantic salmon to pulled pork, all served on a bagel.

Sault Cafe, 110 Main Rd, Moonah

With Middle Eastern inspirations, Sault on Main Rd in Moonah serve eggs like you’ve never had them, boiled with baba ganoush, Middle Eastern yoghurt, olives, shallots and a homemade mixed beans and flatbread. If you’re after something more western take your pick of Benedict, scrambled, fried and poached.

Room for a Pony, 338 Elizabeth St, North Hobart

For a different take on eggs look no further than Room for a Pony, where the head chef’s specialty — the Chinese fried chilli omelette — is the most popular dish in the cafe. With a three-egg omelette on a bed of steamed rice with oyster sauce, fried shallots and chilli sauce, your senses are sure to be set alight. They also serve a wood fired huevos rancheros with mixed bean sauce and melted cheese and avocado.

Pollen Tea Room, 56 Hampden Rd, Battery Point

It’s all about style at Battery Point’s cute cafe Pollen Tea Room, where the two egg dishes -Pollen or Pesto — come in ramekins served on a chopping board. The pollen eggs comes with two baked eggs with half an avocado and Japanese spice mix gomashio. A similar theme, the pesto eggs comes with sourdough and the housemade green pesto.
