IF you’re looking for somewhere to grab a coffee or a bite to eat with your canine companion, hightail it to one these fur-friendly cafes.

Lansdowne Crescent Cafe, 68 Lansdowne Cres, West Hobart

With rotating specials, cozy atmosphere, water bowls and dedicated leash poles outside, Lansdowne will always keep you pleasantly surprised. For a hearty lunch try the baked eggs with black beans and avocado with or without beef ($19). The addition of vegan haloumi to the menu is sure to be a hit as well.

Driftwood, 13 North Terrace, Lauderdale

A seasonal no-nonsense menu is key to Driftwood’s philosophy of using local produce and doing as much processing on-site as possible. Try the char grilled King Island rump steak served with asparagus, zucchini, pine nuts, goat cheese and red wine jus ($38) or, for something sweet, vanilla creme brulee ($14).

Room For A Pony, 338 Elizabeth St, North Hobart

This trendy cafe and bar is always buzzing, from brunch through to dinner and beyond. Four-legged guests are more than welcome, with anywhere from two to 10 seen on the lawn on any given day. For a filling breakfast try the Chinese fried chilli omelette on jasmine rice ($17) or the roast potato rosti with two poached eggs, spiced pepitas and burnt butter hollandaise sauce ($18), and check out #dogsofthepony on social media for goofy grins and wagging tails.

Salty Dog, 2 Beach Rd, Kingston Beach

Opposite one of greater Hobart’s busiest beaches, the sunny beer garden of this 1970s beach shack-inspired building is filled with picnic tables — the perfect spot to kick back with your furry friend. As well as the “dog wall” main entrance photo montage, healthy house-made canine treats are available for purchase. The specialty gnocchi is also a hit, served with confit tomatoes, fried basil, green olives and parmesan ($24).

3 Little Ducks, 38-40 Cambridge Rd, Bellerive

With water bowls out front, chew bones for purchase and the option for customers to make donations for pet friends, this eatery near the marina is ideal for a stop in with your dog.

The Posh Duck includes poached eggs with saffron hollandaise, sourdough and wilted spinach with shaved Wursthaus ham ($16.95) or smoked salmon ($18.95). For something more, the Full Duck comes with eggs your way, beef sausages, bacon, grilled tomato and hash browns with sunflower and rye toast ($19.50).
