WHEN you get a severe case of the hunger pains there’s no more satisfying solution than a classic burger. Here are five of the tastiest.

The Whaler, 39 Salamanca Pl, Hobart

The Big Whac $22

This burger isn’t on The Whaler’s menu but you can order it if you know to ask. Like their normal Whac, this version comes with cheese, lettuce, pickle, freshly-baked bun, The Whaler’s special Whac sauce and chips, but it also includes two 100 per cent Tasmanian beef patties. This is the burger you want at 3am but has never existed before.

Burgerhaus, 364A Elizabeth St, North Hobart

Haus Burger $15.50

This is a real “bang for your buck” beef burger. This beauty is the signature burger of the North Hobart eatery. It comes with the lot and is the biggest and most impressive on the menu. With all your normal yummy fillings and the addition of onion rings, this is a great hunger-buster and is substantial yet also healthy.

Burger Got Soul, Sandy Bay, Hobart, Launceston, Devonport

Tassie Tempter $15.50

Made from 100 per cent lean beef, cheese, crispy bacon, free-range egg, beetroot, lettuce, tomato, relish and mayo, this is a true-blue traditional Aussie burger. It appeals to all those who enjoy the classic things in life and when it comes to burgers has real “wow” factor.

Devil’s Kitchen Cafe, 58 Sandy Bay Rd, Sandy Bay

Devil’s Chicken Burger $12

This comes with chips on the side, making it the best-priced burger on the list. It includes a juicy, crumbed chicken breast fillet, tomato, lettuce and peri peri mayo. It also includes some of the cafe’s special house-made sauce — sweet but slightly spicy and the perfect accompaniment to the burger.

Jack Greene, 49 Salamanca Pl, Hobart

Beef and Bacon Burger $18

To all the meatlovers out there, this burger’s name alone sounds like heaven. With Tasmanian beef from the local butcher, and streaky bacon, it truly is a taste sensation. Accompanying the meat are all the usual components of a good burger but there is also some smoky barbecue sauce and garlic aioli to deliver extra favour.
