Sarah Jane “SJ” Adams isn’t the most obvious choice to compete on Big Brother.
The 66-year-old confesses she likes to be alone – in fact, her husband and daughters “live
elsewhere down the road” from her home in Newtown – and her life is incredibly frugal.
“I have an outdoor shower and toilet, my oven is 80 years old, my house is a plastic-free zone – I’m very old-fashioned,” she tells Stellar On Friday in her matter-of-fact way.
“We even had to buy a television in order to watch the show.”
Which begs the question: why did Adams sign up for the reality series in the first place?
“I wanted to challenge myself,” she explains. “That’s part of the process of the path I’m on. It was a very important thing to test how my inner strength is.”
While Adams didn’t go into the house with a game plan, she did go in with an open mind. “I didn’t go, ‘I’m going to make friends with everybody’ or ‘I’m going to join an alliance.’
My strategy was to try to live in the present and not be anxious about what was to come.”
Adams is proud of how she’s playing it, even after copping a “hammering” on social media.
“It’s about knowing I’ve been playing a truthful game with integrity for myself. I haven’t been screwing people over because however much people think they can make promises we don’t know what’s around the corner,” she reveals.
“Ultimately, in life, as in the house, the only person you can trust is yourself.”
