Many Australians are getting confident in their kitchen skills during lockdown which has caused a surge in home cooking supplies.
And although kitchen fatigue is setting in for many, a new set of kitchen habits have been set.
The pandemic saw millions of households spending more money at the supermarket than at places where someone else made the food.
Coles’ supermarket sales rose 9.7 per cent from July to September, compared to the same time last year, and its cookware sales had increased by 35 per cent with Victoria reaching over 70 per cent year on year.
“Australians cherish sharing a meal with friends and family and they want to support Aussie farmers, food producers and their local community,” Coles chief marketing officer Lisa Ronson said.
For those ready to make the jump from occasional home cook to home chef, it helps to have the tools of the trade.
And while one great chef’s knife is all you need, it’s worth investing in something nice if you’re serious about cooking regularly.
From today, customers will have the chance to earn free stainless-steel MasterChef Knives when they shop at Coles.
Customers will earn a ‘MasterChef Knife’ credit by scanning their Flybuys card every time they spend $20 or more in one transaction at Coles supermarkets and Coles Online.
Once customers have enough credits, they can redeem in store for a MasterChef knife.
Starting from 20 credits, customers can collect a utility knife, a small santoku-style knife, bread knife, cook’s knife (the most used knife in the kitchen), a large santoku and a 2-pack of steak knives.
Customers can also purchase a knife block made from acacia wood and a unique filament insert that holds any type of knife and utensil for $25 in store.
“Last year our customers loved our glassware campaign and we know from our research that knives have been the most popular reward program in the world so we’re confident our customers will love the extra bit of value they get at the checkout,” Ms Ronson said.
Award-winning chef and restaurateur Luke Mangan has joined Coles as the ambassador for the new MasterChef Knives.
“As a chef myself, I know how important a good set of sharp knives are because they’re used in the creation of virtually every dish,” he said.
“These knives are designed with the combination of the perfect balance, comfort, grip and performance, making cooking prep even easier from chopping vegetables to carving the perfect Christmas ham this year and beyond.
“I know a lot of people need new knives in the kitchen but don’t get around to buying them, so I think it’s fantastic that Coles has made it really easy to get excellent quality knives for free.”
