“Our customers are telling us that one in five of them don’t start planning until May, and a quarter are unsure when they’ll even begin,” she says.

“Two-thirds of shoppers are looking to spend from $51-$250 on mum this year, with a large proportion looking for gifts that are meaningful or are considered a treat.”

Colin O’Reilly is planning on spending from $150-200 on thoughtful gifts for wife Orla.

“I try to get something special that she would not go out and buy herself. It might be practical like a new coffee machine or sentimental such as a framed print she’d enjoy,” he says.

Orla says: “I have two little boys so my husband still buys the gifts, but they really enjoy helping him shop and wrap.

“Being a mother can be demanding, so having a dedicated day to celebrate mums is a really lovely occasion for many of us. It is the thought that counts.”
