'Tacky' bride slammed over strange $1 wedding favours

"If people don't take them - I have a stock!" the bride laughed. But no one in the comments thought it was that funny.

What not to do at a wedding

It was meant to be a quirky idea that also doubled as a way of saving money for her big day, but a bride has been labelled "as cheap as they come" over the wedding favours she was hoping to give her guests.

Unsure of how her thrifty and quirky idea would be received by her nearest and dearest, the bride took to a private Facebook group to see what the broader public thought.

"For wedding favours, has anyone done canned food like mac and cheese?" she asked the online community.

Quirky or cheap?

The bride-to-be went on to explain that she knows it was completely out of the box in terms of your traditional bonboniere, but was aiming for something fun that wouldn't break the bank (unlike everything else that needs to be organised for a wedding!)

"I know it's not super healthy - but I'm going for something fun and out of the box. I just know that canned foods are cheaper than actual wedding favours ($0.58 vs $3.40)," she explained.

"I am trying to cut costs and honestly think ribbon and 100 cans of food would be okay... Plus, if people don't take them - I have a stock!"

Bride slammed over "cheap" idea

It was a joke to lighten the mood a little. But not everyone thought it was funny.

Some people - who weren't even invited to the wedding, so what's the big deal? - said they were absolutely disgusted that the bride would even consider a party favour such as this.

"This is so gross. You can't be serious," one horrified member commented.

"I'd think it was tacky. It's better than the stupid shot glasses and monograms, but I think those are dumb and tacky too," another chimed in before adding the best gift to give guests is "chocolate."

While there were plenty slamming the bride and calling her "tacky", others came to her defence.

"A bow slapped on a can of spaghetti or baby potatoes would have me cackling," one woman chimed in.

"I'd probably be ok with leaving with a box of mac and cheese over a dumb monogrammed something I'll never use again," another man added.

And others said despite how tacky the gift was, they understand how tough things are right now for the majority of people - let alone those trying to save for the biggest day of their lives.

"In this day and age with inflation and jobs not paying a liveable wage - yeah, I'd be cool with this."

Personally, I'd be OK with it, but at least give me the beans in tomato sauce.
