Young boy captured riding an e-scooter in the middle of a main Adelaide road

“If a truck came around, even a four-wheel-drive, no one could see him from that low,” Witness Georgie said.

Commuters in Adelaide were waiting at the traffic lights when they saw an e-scooter speeding around the corner and down the middle of a busy street.

At first sight, they were confused, then realised it appeared to be a young child at the handlebars.

A driver grabbed their phone and filmed the scene as the child steered the e-soccer down the middle of the busy road alone.

Young child captured riding an e-scooter on a busy main road

The clip showed the young boy, believed to be as young as 10, in a blue shirt and helmet sitting on the scooter and turning the corner of Main North Road and Craigmore Road in Blakeview at 5:30 PM on Saturday.

The speed limit for vehicles on Main North Road is 90 km/h.

“It’s pretty shocking,” said witness Georgie Beer to 7News. “It makes you think where his parents are and if they know what he is using the scooter for.”

She added that the thought of the child's joy ride on a busy street wasn’t just an unusual sight but also an extremely dangerous one, even if the kid was spotted wearing his helmet.

“I think everyone was a bit in shock to see a child of that age so confident, I guess,” she shared with 9News.

“If a truck came around, even a four-wheel-drive, no one could see him from that low. It's definitely not safe for him to be on a main road.”

“[Kids] seem to do whatever they want these days, and police can’t do anything”

Despite the shocking footage, residents in the area said this sight isn’t uncommon.

“They just seem to do whatever they want these days, and the police can’t do anything about it,” said a local man to 7News.

“Nearly every night, we’ve got dirt bikes riding around on the roads with no lights and no rego and ... cars doing burnouts.”

Generally speaking, e-scooters are not permitted to be driven on the road or road-related areas, such as footpaths.

The maximum penalty for riding an e-scooter on the road is $2,500.

South Australia Police have been informed of the incident and are currently investigating.
