‘My 3-year-old cried for me to stop filming… but I knew the video would go viral’

The mum thought posting her screaming daughter was hilarious, but she's been labelled abusive by followers.

Mum enrages internet after filming daughter having tantrum

As far as Terri-Ann Michelle is concerned, people who post videos of their children’s tantrums to TikTok are their children’s first bullies.

The mum, who posts as @terriannmichelle on TikTok, shared a stitch to the platform, commentating on a video of a little girl screaming in her car seat in the backseat of the family car while her mum filmed.

“This makes me sick to my stomach,” she said.

“I am enraged at this video. This girl is probably three or four having an age-appropriate tantrum.

“The mum has a camera in her face while the girl literally screams, ‘Stop it, stop it, I don’t want pictures’.”

Terri-Ann wondered the mum’s disregard for her daughter’s boundaries would play out when the little girl got older.

Because her voice wasn’t heard by a trusted adult – probably the person who should be the MOST trusted adult – maybe the little girl wouldn’t speak up for herself in the future.

Maybe she’d give consent to things she didn’t want to do because she’d never had a voice before.

Do you have any idea how important that sentence is going to be to your daughter in the future?” Terri-Ann said. “’Stop it. Stop it’.”

Mum disrespects young daughter’s boundaries

Terri-Ann was outraged.

“What do you think you’re teaching this little girl?” she asked. “That her words mean nothing? That her boundaries are not important?

“If the one person who’s supposed to instil this boundary in her daughter, doesn’t respect the boundary, what hope is she going to have asking anyone else to respect a boundary?”

Terri-Ann slammed the mum, saying she was just posting the video for likes and views.

The comments were full of people sharing their own stories of similar treatment.

“My mother-in-law video taped my daughter having an appropriate tantrum and informed her she was going to text it to the whole family,” one person wrote. “I threw an age-appropriate tantrum.”

“My mum used to threaten to record me whenever I was having a meltdown as a kid,” said another.

“That’s what my mum did for years,” a third person said. “Guess who went no contact at 16 years old.”

Like Terri-Ann, others were worried about the little girl.

“When parents are the first ones to break their kids’ trust, it’s awful. They won’t ever trust them again,” said one person.

But many people shared how they respected their kids’ boundaries.

“My daughter is five and knows if she asks me to put my phone away, I will. Been like that her whole life,” a mum said.
