‘If you were three years old, where would you hide your mum’s wallet?’

A mum made a desperate plea online to help find her lost wallet, and the viral post revealed a bizarre trend in toddler hiding spots.

Genius mum hack means you'll never lose your toddler in public again

Charlotte* was doing a bit of gardening while her three-year-old son played with stones outside when she realised her wallet was missing.

She did what any desperate parent would do: she posted on Reddit about it.

“If you were three years old or younger, where would you put your mum’s wallet?” she asked.

“It’s been missing for a week. I’ve checked everything I can think to check.

“At this point I’m leaning toward it ended up in the rubbish and went out last Friday.

“Where have you found things in a WTF location?”

Over 300 people came to the comments to share the crazy places they’d found hidden items, and it was clear that toddlers had a strong preference for one particular spot.

Parents share weird places kids have hidden things

Parents took to the comments to share stories of young kids hiding things, from wallets to keys to remote controls.

Hiding places were varied and sometimes diabolical: drawers, the freezer, inside shoes.

But one hiding place was so common, parents could be forgiven for thinking their toddlers had been conspiring.

“My vehicle keys were missing for a week,” one person said. “We turned the house upside down, my office, my husband’s office. They were in the seat of the damn toy fire truck.”

“Once my daughter took my keys into her toy rider car and forgot they were under the seat… very expensive to replace two car fobs and all my tool box keys,” another said.

“Rider toys with the little lift-open seats are always my first suggestion,” a third person said.

One person shared a solution to help avoid lost wallets and keys in the future.

“Highly recommend tiles,” they said. “They have credit card versions. I have tiles on all keyrings, in wallets, in backpack, affixed to back of remote.”

Mum finds lost wallet

As for Charlotte, she updated the post saying she’d found the wallet, and not with the help of any of the comments.

First she set the scene of the wallet’s disappearance.

“I set my wallet on a little table we have on our porch and below the table was a pair of my husband’s old work boots.

“While I was weeding the garden, my three-year-old was grabbing the stones lining the garden and tossing them in the boots.

“I found my wallet in the boot, covered in rocks.”
