‘Don’t do this!’: Influencer mum promotes ‘dangerous' plane tip with baby

She called it a "lifesaver", but others thought it was quite the opposite.

Influencer faces backlash for using makeshift baby hammock on plane

A parenting influencer has taken to TikTok to share her 'plane hack', in which she placed her baby in a DIY hammock. However, commenters weren't so sure it was the safest of ideas...

Natália Figueira, a mum-of-one, was flying with her child from Brazil to Florida when she came up with a controversial solution to secure her daughter.

Taking to her account, the mummy blogger shared her contraption with her fans.

"A real lifesaver"

"POV: you improvised a hammock so your baby could stay comfortable on the plane," she wrote over footage of her rocking her daughter in the suspended swing.

In the caption, she wrote: "Pure improvisation!

"We used the blanket they give you on the plane, tied it to the trays on both sides, put the pillow in, and voilà!"

She concluded: "A real lifesaver, right? Maria loved it!"

"Don't do it!"

The original clip, which gained over a million views but has since been deleted, garnered thousands of comments from concerned followers.

"Dangerous!" one person simply wrote.

"Don't do it!" another critic added.

"Your baby is going to crack their head on the ceiling if you experience an unexpected turbulence," a third warned.

"If the plane crashes, she may end up getting hurt," a different woman claimed.

The mum releases a statement

Following the criticism, Natália released a statement to the media.

"We put her inside, she played a little, but we know that children don't stay still," she told Newsflash.

"It was when we recorded the video that was posted that she wanted to get out.

"We know that a child won't spend hours on a flight in peace. So, as not to disturb the other passengers, we bring several distractions."
