Aldi’s Special Buys sales descend into chaos

“I just wanted the airfryer and I’m fighting to get through with my trolley.”

Aldi Special Buys draws huge crowd

The middle aisle at Aldi is a truly magical place.

Where else will you find a solar-powered shower next to a sewing machine?

While each new special buy drop excited many shoppers, footage over the weekend has emerged of the grocery store in total disarray.

Every shopper for themselves

Aldi populates the middle aisle with its Special Buys items every Wednesday and Saturday.

The April 27 sale featured a range of items, including technology, kitchenware, and heating appliances.

But it was the Crofton Cast Aluminium range that caused the most commotion. In the chaos, a worker was seen standing on top of the items, desperately trying to distribute boxes to the eager crowd below.

The scenes were captured on social media, with customers locked in a fierce battle for bargains. It's clear that it was very much a case of every shopper for themselves.

“I got 13”

It appeared many weren’t satisfied with only one item, with some shoppers loading up their trolleys.

“I got 13 of them today. It was crazy,” wrote one social media user.

“I was at Aldi Chullora. It was the same, some buying 20 pots. What are they going to do with all those,” another social media user added.

“Same at Mount Druitt, bro,” another said.

“I just wanted the airfryer and I’m fighting to get through with my trolley.”

“I don’t know what it is but now I want one too,” one person wrote.

However, not everyone was as impressed: “Nobody was really interested in them here”,

according to one shopper, there were still plenty of pots available at their local Aldi in Townsville.

“We’re always thrilled”

An Aldi spokesperson told news.com.au, “We’re always thrilled to see our customers excited for the latest Special Buys. The Crofton Cast Aluminium range is a shopper favourite, and on Saturday, a selection of Crofton pots and pans went on sale from just $19.99, delivering brilliant value to ALDI customers.

“However, while we know there is high demand and enthusiasm for this product, we always encourage customers to shop the middle aisle with consideration for other shoppers and our team members.”

Aldi under the microscope

According to their website, “ALDI Australia operates more than 570 stores in six states and territories, directly employing more than 13,500 people and working with more than 1,000 Australian business partners each day.”

The German discount supermarket giant stormed into the Australian grocery market back in 2001.

Known for its no-frills approach and cheap-as-chips prices, ALDI has become a favourite among Aussie shoppers.

Since its arrival, ALDI has seen its profits skyrocket with annual profits consistently in the billions.
