A SYMPHONY created by the Tasmanian elements will be the star of brewer James Boag’s latest marketing campaign.
Continuing to associate their beer with Tasmania’s rugged landscapes, James Boag has commissioned the creation of a new instrument, the meteorphonium, which converts live environmental and weather readings into music.
The instrument is 1.7m in diameter and features nine bronze singing bowls and a central “tongue drum” housed in a Tasmanian oak frame.
Data inputs from a weather station, including wind speed, humidity and atmospheric pressure, stimulate the mechanical movements of the instrument to create a symphony of drumming and chiming.
The meteorphonium has been stationed at Ben Lomond, where it has collected readings from the elements to create a new symphony that will feature in a new James Boag video.
The instrument was designed by composer and sound designer Nick Ryan.
