CRAFT beer lovers will have a chance to enjoy a brew and meet the brewer who made it at today’s Microbrew Fest in Hobart.
A record number of the state’s boutique brewers will be showcasing their beers and ciders at Princes Wharf 1.
The annual festival is organised by TasTAFE Drysdale Advanced Diploma of Hospitality and Tourism students.
“It’s a student-run initiative showcasing great new microbrewers and an industry that is having huge growth,” student Alex Rhysberger said.
“The event will be both inside PW1 and the deck facing Salamanca Market enabling us to accommodate a larger crowd.”
Student Lucinda Scutt said she had learnt a lot from helping organise the festival.
“I want to get into the events organising industry and doing this is really great experience,” she said.
Food stalls and live music will also be featured.
Last year 1500 people attended and organisers are hoping good weather will see a crowd of 3000 today.
Microbrew Fest is sponsored by the Tasmanian Beer Trail, an initiative of the Tasmanian Government with support from the Brewers Association of Australia and New Zealand.
A total of 16 brewers will take part. New brewers showcasing their ales will be Kick Snare Brewing from Launceston, Coal Valley Cider and T-Bone Brewing from Cambridge.
The event runs from 12pm to 5pm with a gold coin entry fee.
