THIS is hard to believe.
A man, who was drunk, killed his family’s puppy dog, skinned it and wanted to serve it for
supper.
Salvador Martinez, 46, stabbed his family’s nine-months-old black and white chiweenie — a mix between a chihuahua and dachshund — with a screwdriver in the backyard of his family’s home in Edgewood, New Mexico, KRQE-TV reported.
He then skinned Onyx and put the puppy in the freezer. He then switched on the home personal computer and went online to search for dog meat recipes and to check whether it was legal to eat dogs in New Mexico.
When Martinez’s girlfriend discovered the dog in the freezer, she confronted Martinez. He allegedly replied if she did not want to eat it then he would take the dog to his mother’s house for a barbecue.
“It is extremely disturbing to know that someone would be that brutal with a family animal,” Torrance County Sheriff Heath White said.
“The carcass was still inside the refrigerator being prepped for dinner,” he added.
It is not illegal to eat dog or cat in New Mexico but killing the family pet in front of children is illegal, said White.
“The family was distraught about their pet,” White told the Mountain View Telegraph. “It hadn’t been bought and raised to be eaten.”
Martinez told police that he had killed the puppy as he was hungry yet his girlfriend told officers that there was food in the house. The family also receives financial aid from the government and churches.
Martinez was charged with extreme animal cruelty and child abuse. He is charged with breaking his probation on charges of bringing 13kg of cocaine across the border from Mexico.
