WHEN his dog lost his eyesight due to diabetes it was devastating for both dog and owner.

“Within about three to five months he went from a totally normal eight-year-old dog to a dog who was completely blind,” the owner Benjamin May (BenZino21) wrote on Reddit.

It broke my heart seeing this dog I grew up with ... running into things, not being able to recognise me.”

Duffy, an Irish Terrier adopted by May, recently had an operation to restore his eyesight after veterinary surgeons and the family had managed to stabilise his diabetes.

The operation in Pennsylvania was a success and Duffy’s owners recorded the moment they were reunited with their beloved pet dog.

The video, posted on June 14, has had more than 1.26 million hits. It shows Duffy joyfully squealing and licking everyone in the room, clearly delighted to be able to see his owner and his family once again.

“He’s a trooper,” May wrote.
