A fitness and wellness figure has revealed how she had the worst panic attack of her life, but it was her husband’s kind act that had people opening up.

Laura Henshaw, who co-founded health and wellness company Kic alongside Steph Claire Smith, opened up on kicpod about her recent panic attack experience.

She called it the “worst” panic attack experience that she’s ever had.

“In our house, there’s a little porch before we walk into the house. And I sat down and [my husband] Dalton was like, ‘What are you doing’,” the 31-year-old recalled.

“And I was like, ‘I can’t get up’. I couldn’t walk, I couldn’t move. He had to carry me inside.”

The fitness influencer said she got into bed and felt as though she was having a heart attack, saying she just laid there in the pain in her muscles and the heat radiating off her body.

She said she was incredibly uncomfortable throughout the whole experience.

“I couldn’t sleep, I couldn’t open my eyes,” she said.

Laura said an aspect where she was lucky was that her husband had experienced panic attacks before, and his experience has really helped her.

When Laura experiences a panic attack, Dalton puts her in bed and sits with her, reminding her that everything is going to be OK — with the influencer adding she feels like she is dying during the attack.

He then stays with her for the next three to four hours to make sure she doesn’t continue to spiral.

His actions have earned Dalton praise, with Laura saying, “A lot of people have shared how much their partner supports them through a panic attack when they are experiencing them, and how much of a difference it makes to have a support person there with you.

“Which is a privilege and not a reality for everyone.”

Many flooded the comment section with their own experiences, saying it does in fact help when there is someone to support you.

“My husband guides me through mine too. Because I hyperventilate, he holds me and breathes with me until I slow my breathing back to normal,” one person shared.

Another added: “God bless husbands helping their wives through panic attacks.

“Mine immediately gets an ice pack and puts it on my face or neck and helps me breathe through the hyperventilating. Plus makes sure I’m sitting so I don’t collapse from that loss of muscle control.”

“Oh I hear you, it’s truly one of the scariest things to experience. My husband does the same for me. Once its all over you just feel completely drained. Your definitely not alone,” one added.

Others praised Laura for being so candid about what she had experienced.

One said: “I’ve been there lady, I’m so sorry you went through that but thank you also for being brave enough to talk about it. It’s not easy. ️I appreciate your voice so much especially in this space”

“The not being able to move your muscles is the scariest part for me. It fees like you’ve lost control completely. So glad people are opening talking about this,” another said.

One commented: “This made me cry just listening to you, I’ve been struggling with panic attacks for many years now. The toil it takes on your mental health is enormous. It’s so important to bring this topic to the light more to help others and ourselves normalise it. Big love.”

Laura said the response to her openness has been overwhelmingly positive.

“I have had a lot of beautiful messages from people who live with panic/anxiety attacks,” she told news.com.au.

“They have been very generous in their replies around the gratitude for speaking up about them publicly as it’s helped them feel less alone.”
