Woolworths introduces new hot roast chook for limited time

A new hot roast chicken flavour at the Aussie supermarket has customers’ tastebuds tingling. But it’s only available for a limited time.

Lockdown idea launches into Woolworths

Favourite Aussie staple, the beloved hot chook, has been given a delicious new twist from Woolworths, leaving shoppers in a frenzy.

Food blogger @FoodieMummaRen took to social media to share a picture of the new Woolworths ‘Memphis BBQ’ hot roast chicken, with her followers excited about the addition to the supermarket’s hot ready-to-go section.

“We would destroy this,” one person said, tagging their friend in the comments section.

Another commenter said: “That would be so yum.”

A third said they were thankful to the food blogger for sharing the chicken update, but asked about the spice level as they were concerned it may be too hot for them.

The Woolworths Memphis BBQ chickens are a new seasonal flavour set to be available in stores for the next 12 months. However, this may be subject to change.

“The plot chickens! We’re excited about our new seasonal ‘Memphis BBQ’ hot roast chicken,” a Woolworths spokesperson told news.com.au.

“It’s available now at most Woolworths stores across Australia.”

The new chicken flavour can be found at 95 per cent of Woolworths supermarkets around the country.

It comes after it was discovered that in a handful of stores, some Woolworths roast chickens are now being sold in black bags, signifying that they are halal.

The chickens, which are the same price as regular roast chickens, were first introduced in 2019 at Woolworths Roselands, in southwest Sydney.

They have since expanded to stores in other Sydney suburbs: Bass Hill, Auburn, Roselands, Lakemba, Bankstown and Granville.

News.com.au understands the halal chicken is cooked in a separate oven.
