‘Weird’ new Coca-Cola flavour hits shelves in the US

The soft drink giant has unveiled its new limited edition Coke flavour and it’s safe to say no-one asked for it — or saw this flavour coming.

Coca-Cola introduces bizarre new flavour

Ever wanted to know what space tasted like?

Well, even if that’s not top of your flavour list, now you can find out with Coca-Cola releasing a Starlight flavour.

The limited edition flavour is currently only available in the United States, with Coca-Cola describing it having “notes reminiscent of stargazing around a campfire, as well as a cooling sensation that evokes the feeling of a cold journey to space”.

Starlight Coke, which comes in both sugar-free and original form, has a reddish colour which the soft drink company describes as a “dash of the unexpected”.

Coca-Cola have high hopes when it comes to the impact this new flavour will have, with a press release from the brand describing it aiming “to bring space to life with one sip” and “capturing some of the mystery and essence of what we love about what lies beyond our atmosphere”.

“Starlight was created with the vision that — in a world of infinite possibilities — somewhere in our universe, another kind of Coca-Cola, another way of connecting with each other might exist,” Coca-Cola said, according to People.

The limited edition flavour is the first project from Coca-Cola Creations, a new arm of the company which aims to be a “global innovation platform”.

Unsurprisingly, Starlight Coke got a rather confused reaction from people on Twitter, with one person joking that “space has officially jumped the shark”.

While some people have been able to get their hands on it early, Starlight Coke will be officially available in the US from Monday.

There’s no word yet on whether the flavour will be making its way to Australia.
