Cost of living still has a tight grip on Australians who are now turning to the freezer aisle to stick to their budget.
Aldi has released new data that shows how Aussies are still struggling amid current cost of living pressures with hosts set to pay $62 per person for Christmas lunch.
This is a $7 increase from the year before. It’s not only the price that is a big factor with Aussies typically spending four hours in the kitchen getting everything ready for Christmas lunch.
Data shows that in a bid to keep prices down, 66 per cent of Australians are picking up items from the freezer aisle for the festive season.
It’s led to Aldi doubling it’s freezer range for Christmas to help Australians cut down their spending and time in the kitchen.
The supermarket chain claimed that a three course menu — including three sides and a bottle of wine — could be put together for less than $62 for a family-of-six using its frozen offerings.
Items on offer include the six-pack of Specially Selected Premium Extra Large Scallops Wrapped in Maple Flavoured Bacon and the one kilogram Christmas Favourites Australian Turkey Breast Roast.
“Christmas should be all about enjoying the company of your loved ones and having time to make memories and share good food,” Kylie Warnke, Aldi’s shopping expert, said.
“Our research shows Aussies spend on average, four hours preparing food for Christmas Day. “At ALDI we’re hoping to make the day feel a little lighter on prep with our biggest ever frozen range so there’s something for everyone.”
She said the German supermarket chain’s goal was to make a frozen item for every element of the Christmas meal.
It comes after Aldi announced the return of the two-pack of the Specially Selected Premium Lobster Tails with Garlic Butter Glaze, which retails from $34.99.
However, it wasn’t the only lobster item landing in the German supermarket chain from October 23.
There are three new additions to the range, including the Specially Selected Lobster Thermidor Style Croquettes for $6.99 and the Specially Selected Split Rock Lobster in either a garlic and herb sauce or French style sauce for $29.99.
In total, there were 13 new products in the range, where the supermarket is hoping to allow shoppers to “go a little extra” this festive season without breaking the bank.
This includes Christmas Favourites Prawn Balls for $3.99, $6.99 Specially Selected Mature Cheese and Onion Croquettes 260g and a two-pack of Specially Selected Scallop & Champagne Gratin 300g for $9.99.
